An interim determination is a decision made by Waihanga Ara Rau to fix an issue or error within a standard to allow for continued assessment until the standard can be reviewed, replaced or expired.
Where barriers relate to a standard, and where it is impractical to immediately review and republish that standard, Waihanga Ara Rau, as the Standard Setting Body, shall make a determination that will remain in place until the version of the standard passes the last date of assessment. Interim determinations will exist until the version of the standard has been expired.
Please note that an interim determination cannot add new outcomes or performance criteria to a standard. If new outcomes or performance criteria are required, the standard must be reviewed.
Interim determinations provide clarity in the following situations:
It is important that barriers to teaching, learning and assessment are removed to ensure that apprentices and trainees are able to progress through their standards within acceptable timeframes.
Depending on the determination, updated materials may need to be pre-moderated. See interim determination detail of each standard to see whether this is the case.
Interim determinations will apply to any post-assessment moderation called following the effective from date.
Visit our Moderation page for more information on moderation requirements.
As interim determinations are introduced, consent to assess holders will receive a notification email.
If you think an interim determination may be needed on a standard, please email [email protected] with the impacted unit standard/s ID and specific detail about the area requiring further clarity.
