New insights on Workforce, Industry, and Training 26 March 2025 The latest updates to the Workforce Insights Platform (WIP.org.nz) are now live, bringing fresh data and enhanced analysis to help you better understand workforce trends, skill demands, and training pathways. This update includes new and improved dashboards that provide a clearer picture of workforce supply and demand, industry demographics, and training trends. Here’s what’s new: Industry analysis Workforce Gaps (NEW): Estimates the workforce surplus or shortage by comparing modelled workforce demand and supply over time. Wider Workforce (NEW): A 2023 Census snapshot showing workforce composition across three groups – core workforce, relevant industry, and relevant occupations. Anticipated work put in place (updated): A long-term view of labour requirements for upcoming infrastructure projects, factoring in historical project delays and cancellations. Project Pipeline (updated): Enhanced filters for sector, service, and data sources to refine industry activity projections. Demographic insights Total Workforce Size (updated): Now includes 2023 data, with ongoing updates as new employer and self-employment data become available. Workforce & Business Demographics (updated): Regional breakdowns, business size, ownership, and trends over time now reflect the latest industry data. Business Size (updated & enhanced): A new category for businesses with no employees, revealing that 65% of sector businesses in 2023 had no employees, while 21% had 1-3 employees. Pathways & Training All dashboards are updated with 2023 data. Learner data will be refreshed with 2024 numbers in Q2 2025. These updates provide real-time, data-driven insights to support decision-making in workforce development, policy planning, and industry growth strategies.
