Our plans for the next six months 19 February 2025 We’re committed to supporting our sectors and ensuring that industry voices continue to shape the future. We’re rolling out Workforce Development Plans for different sectors, improving key resources, and building stronger cultural partnerships. Here are the key projects we’re working on to strengthen our workforce: Strategic Reference Groups (SRGs) – Continued operation and engagement with 11 sector-specific SRGs, plus dedicated Māori and Pacific Peoples groups, ensuring industry voices shape workforce development. Workforce Development Action Plans – Implementation of tailored action plans for each sector and separate strategies for Māori and Pacific Peoples, with measurable progress by mid-2025. Trade Careers website upgrade – Enhancing inclusivity and employer engagement on the website, making it more accessible to support workforce attraction. Disability Action Plan – Moving from research to action, implementing strategies to improve accessibility and inclusion for disabled individuals in the construction and infrastructure sectors. Major qualification reviews & development – Ongoing updates and development of key qualifications across Access Trades, Civil Infrastructure, Electrotechnology, On Site Construction, and Water Services. Transition planning for Vocational Education reform – Preparing for the establishment of Industry Skills Boards with minimal disruption for industry and staff. Engagement with iwi & cultural competency initiatives – Strengthening industry relationships with iwi, promoting cultural competency, and ensuring Māori perspectives are embedded in workforce development.
